ATLANTA — A gunman appeared to target several buildings at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this afternoon and is now dead.
Eyewitnesses shared images of the Clifton School, located between the CDC and Emory Point, where both the school and the CDC remain on lockdown. Video posted to social media captured a barrage of gunfire, believed to be from a high-caliber weapon.
According to sources, one officer was injured in the incident. No CDC employees have been reported hurt. A nearby daycare was open at the time of the shooting and is also under lockdown.
The shooter is believed to have opened fire from across the street from the CDC, near the CVS at Emory Point. While the gunman is reported down, the scene has not yet been cleared, and multiple buildings in and around the Emory campus remain on lockdown.
