ATLANTA— If extremism is supposed to be the enemy, why does it depend on who pulls the trigger?
On August 8, 2025, a gunman opened fire on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. More than 500 rounds were fired at a federal building by a COVID-19 conspiracy theorist. A police officer was killed. Yet there was no National Guard, no flags at half staff, no presidential statement.
For all the talk from the Trump administration about cracking down on violent extremists, the silence surrounding this shooting says more than any press release ever could.
